If the owner wants to move back into their rental house they need to give 63 days' notice to the tenant but there are some caveats.
Firstly, you can only do this if your tenant is on a periodic tenancy. It is not possible to give notice if the tenant has a fixed term tenancy.
Secondly, you must be intending to move in for at least 90 days and be using the house as your principal place of residence.
The same notice period applies to immediate family or employees of the owner.
What you cannot do:
- move back in for a short stay (under 90 days) or a holiday.
- give notice if the house is owned by a trust or company. Trusts and companies do not have family members.
